Keep forging ahead

At a dinner party the other night I overheard someone say an artist should throw everything out every five years and start over. I’ve heard that before. On some level I do agree with it, but what if the nature of your project is memory? And everything you’ve ever saved is the material you’re working with? It would be such a relief to be free of all this stuff. All this past. I made a commitment though, and I’ll keep forging ahead with it, hoping it will be worthwhile in the end.
